The Understory is a subscription-based community that supports our endeavors at Hiyu. It provides you with monthly wine releases, discounts, and priority admission to Wine Tavern experiences – as well as access to our cellar and other ephemeral, artistic expressions of life on the farm.

As a subscriber to the Understory, you receive a monthly allotment of our wildly different vintages, made from fields of diverse and exotic varieties, grown in the Columbia Gorge’s infinite geographies. You also support our experiments, from forest gardens to animal-tended vines to soil and aquifer restoration. You’re enabling all of the progress and energy these efforts manifest to exist and extend into the world.

When you join the Understory, you commit to a minimum one-year subscription. This allows you to experience a holistic selection of our wines and your subscription benefits. If you cancel your subscription prior to one year, you will be responsible for reimbursing Hiyu for any Understory discounts received.

We offer Understory subscription pick-up for locals in and around the Columbia Gorge. Additionally, we are compliant and can ship to the following states: AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IL, IN, LA, ME, MD, MA, MI, MO, MT, NV, NH, NY, NC, OH, PA, SC, TN, TX, VT, VA, WA, WV, and WI. We do not currently offer international Understory subscriptions.

We prepare your allocations and bottle purchases whenever you book a visit. To pickup with out a booking please email visit@hiyuwinefarm.com a minimum of 24 hours in advance. Allocations and bottle purchases may be picked up at the Wine Tavern during regular tavern hours: Thursday to Sunday Noon to 5pm.

Our wines are sensitive to heat and cold, so we only ship when the temperature is under 70 degrees and over 40 degrees at the shipping origin and destination. For this reason, we plan two annual Understory shipments: one in March/April, prior to the hot summer months, and one in October/November, before freezing temperatures prevail. If you have ordered additional bottles, they will be consolidated into these shipments. Understory subscriptions to process monthly. If you would like to pay annually please email understory@hiyuwinefarm.com. This payment plan supports all of our endeavors at Hiyu, where animals, fields, and vine sites must be tended to from dusk to dawn, every day.
